I was very encouraged to hear that the UK National Health Service (NHS) is to launch a ‘kitemark’, a quality certification mark, for health-related apps along with number of other technology focused initiatives to help patients become more involved in managing their health.
The potential that mobile technology offers in training, monitoring and encouraging compliant use of medical devices is immense but it needs the backing of governments & Health authorities to build credibility and confidence of patients to engage with it.
I’m excited to see where this leads to and just hope that the process of achieving a ‘kitemark’ for well designed, truly beneficial apps isn’t too burdensome – after all , that’s what’s great about apps – they are relatively quick to develop and allow regular updates!
